Court Remands 2 ‘Okada’ Riders In Prison For Armed Robbery 

An Asaba Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday remanded two motorcyclists, Stephen Chukwu, 25 and Solomon Okafor, 22  in prison custody  for alleged armed robbery. 

The Police Prosecutor, Mr Alex Ibendegwu,   had told the court that the  accused persons and others now at large , committed the offence on Sept. 20, at Jarret Area in Asaba.

Ibendegwu told the court that the accused persons and others now at large on the same day and place robbed  Alhaji Baba of N169,000, while armed with locally made gun and cutlasses.

Ibendegwu further told the court that the accused persons and others now at large on the same day and place robbed Baba of his LG handset valued at N25,000, while armed with locally made short gun and cutlasses.

He said that the offences  contravened section 1(2)(a) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap RII Vol. 14 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Sylvester Ehikwe, who did not take the plea of the accused persons, said that the case was beyond the jurisdiction of his court.

Ehikwe ordered that duplicate copies of their case files be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutor and also ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody.

He adjourned the case till November 15, for mention.
